GNLU is a premier institute of legal education set up in the year 2003 by an Act of the State Legislature. Ever since its inception, the University has endeavoured towards achieving higher standards of legal education and has focused on inculcating practical argumentative skills amongst students through moot court competitions. With a view to foster research in different avenues of law and to encourage analysis pertaining to the practical implications of law, the University organises various academic events, including two moot court competitions – the GNLU International Moot Court Competition (GIMC) and the GNLU Moot on Securities and Investment Law (GNLUMSIL).

Since its inception in 2015, GNLUMSIL has garnered much praise for filling a void in the Indian mooting scene by providing an opportunity for research and student advocacy in the field of securities and investment law. In a short span, the moot came to establish itself as a quality platform for brilliant minds to parley and learn more about the subject, witnessing 26 and 30 teams vie for the top spot in the first and second editions respectively. The moot also saw successful collaborations with the Bombay Stock Exchange Investors’ Protection Fund, Khaitan & Co., Finsec Law Advisors, Wolters Kluwer, Lex Witness, Manupatra, Uber and Lawctopus.

Preparations are underway for another stellar edition of GNLUMSIL, and the Organizing Committee endeavours to achieve higher standards with respect to every aspect of the competition. Keeping in mind our objective of providing a platform to young minds to explore these niche areas of law, we cordially invite your institution to be a part of this experience and participate in the 3rd edition of GNLUMSIL!

On behalf of Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, I extend a very warm welcome to all the participants of the 2017 edition of GNLUMSIL.

Ever since the economic reforms of the 1990s opened up the Indian economy to foreign investment, securities and investment laws have changed tremendously to satisfy the contemporary challenges and demands of the industry. With changing policies and regulations that are introduced by successive governments, the securities and investment space has seen fast paced developments. Recognizing that the importance of securities and investment law is only bound to increase, GNLUMSIL was conceived in 2015 as a platform for law students to present their advocacy skills. Over the past two years, the moot has garnered acclaim, from participants and judges alike, for its impeccable organization. The success of the competition can be attributed to the ceaseless efforts of the Organizing Committee of GNLUMSIL, comprising of dedicated students and faculty members who begin their assiduous preparations for each edition of the competition months before the event.
