GUJARAT LEGAL EDUCATION PROJECT (GLEP):

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) started the Gujarat Legal Education Project (GLEP) with a view to enhance standards legal education, research, extension and training in the state of Gujarat. GNLU has been mandated by the Commissioner for Higher Education, to function as the Nodal Agency to execute the implementation of the protocol which was agreed upon by the principals of all law colleges of Gujarat, the Government of Gujarat and the GNLU.

The objectives of GLEP are as follows:

• To implement uniform and standard Curriculum as per the guidelines of the Bar Council of India (BCI), Bar Council of Gujarat (BCG) in all law colleges of Gujarat;

• To conduct training for principals, academic and non-academic staff members of law colleges on a regular basis;

• To introduce and enhance standards of mooting among the students;

• To organize seminars focussing on holistic and integrated personal and professional development of students;

• To provide training to final year students for necessary examinations, such as the Bar Council of India Entrance Exam;

• To raise awareness and counsel class XI and XII students of the various schools in Gujarat for the competitive Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) Examination;

• To organise training for preparation for the NET (National Eligibility Test) and G SLET (Gujarat State Level Eligibility Test) examination in Gujarat;

• To establish and ensure quality control and monitoring in curricula, examination and such other activities among all law colleges;

• To enhance and provide better access to online and printed library resources of GNLU and exchange of the same among law colleges;

• To create a comprehensive webpage of all 32 colleges for complete information for the perusal of various stakeholders;

• To prepare study material and textbooks for all subjects before end of calendar year 2011;

• To admit students on the basis of Gujarat Law Admission Test from academic year 2011 and to organise a mandatory mock admission test for all enrolled law students among all law colleges towards this effect;

• To organise and facilitate centralised examination paper setting and evaluation means and mechanisms;

• To ensure publication of Gujarat Law Journal on bi-annual basis, on 1 May and 26 November of each year;

• To organise moot court competition on an annual basis among all law colleges;

• To organise a law students conference for a period of two days on contemporary issues for all law colleges;

• To establish an alumni association at each of the law colleges;

• To carry out other tasks as required and agreed upon by all principals, GNLU, the Task Force and the Government of Gujarat to uplift the standards of legal education, research, extension and training in the State.
