4th Five-day Police Training Programme for State Police Officers (27-31 July, 2010)

The fourth training session of GNLU on ‘Latest Rulings with Regard to Criminal Laws’ in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to impart training to the State Police Officers of Gujarat was launched on July 27, 2010 at Gujarat Police Academy, Gandhinagar. 

Introducing the programme for the fourth training session Mr Anand Kumar Tripathi, Assistant Professor of Law at GNLU highlighted the importance of latest criminal law rulings. The functioning & infrastructure of Gujarat Police Academy was meticulously presented by Mr J.I. Vasava, PI at the police academy. The participants from various regions of Gujarat, 47 in number including 5 Dy.SP, 24 PI & 18 PSI were addressed by Ms Sudha Pandey, Dy.SP & Assistant Director (Outdoor Training), GPA. She pointed out the need of bridging the gap between implementation of law in practice and law in books. 

The resource persons for the five day programme were eminent personnel drawn from the judiciary, police & academics such as judges, senior police officials, academicians & forensic experts. The lectures & presentations were focussed on the different aspects of criminal law including lectures on important criminal laws enacted since 2000, investigation of rape cases, latest ruling regarding environmental laws, provisions regarding accused/victim, criminal justice system, polygraph, narco-analysis, DNA, cyber forensic etc. The interaction between the participants & the resource persons was found to be very fruitful.      

Dr Smt Jyotsnaben Yagnik, Judge, City civil & sessions court; Mr Ajay Kumar Tomar, IPS, IGP (ATS) Gujarat, Ms Meera Verma, DIG, CID Crime; Dr Shobhalata V. Udapudi, Dean Academic Affairs & Associate Professor of Law, Dr K.C. Raval, Sr Lecturer, University School of Law, Dr  Gaurang Jani, Lecturer, Gujarat University, Dr Tarkesh Molia, Dr Vikas Gandhi & Mr Anand Kumar Tripathi, Assistant Professor of Laws &  Experts from Directorate of Forensic Science-DNA, Narco-analysis, polygraphic division, &  cyber forensics Mr Nikunj Brahmbhatt, Mr V.H. Patel, Smt Amital Shikla & Mr H.P. Sangvi were among the resource persons who imparted training for the programme. 

At the conclusion of the programme Mr Anant Deogaonkar, Programme Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Law at GNLU & Ms Soma Battacharjya distributed the Certificate of Participation to the police officers. The training programme, funded by the BPRD will provide the training on the above subject to all Dy. SP, PI & PSI of the whole state of Gujarat for a period of two years.
